About The Position

This engine shop mechanic position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered or natural gas powered industrial engines and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Frequently works independently or as a leader/member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. Mid-level position – Generally has more than seven years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A Level 4 Technician has a broad knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is self-starting and requires minimal supervision; is often a team member on a large project. Requirements

Extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Knowledge of industrial engines powered by diesel or natural gas and related components such as turbos, and transmissions
Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
Ability to read, write, and understand information
Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
Seven or more years of diesel-powered or natural gas powered industrial engines - experience preferred
Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

Responsibilities

Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
Disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
Provides a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented mentoring, and training to others
Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
Performs other duties as assigned
