About The Position

HOLT CAT is the Largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, Shop Service Technician position available at out Tyler, Texas, location. This mechanic position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. Entry-Level Position – Generally has two or more years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; works under moderate supervision. The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; Collaborate with key internal/external resources; Participate in ongoing self-development. The hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We are located at 12218 State Highway 31 W., Tyler, Texas 75709.

Requirements

• At least two years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
• Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams; experience is preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred
• Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)

• Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
• Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
• Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
• Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
• The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
• The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
• The ability to read, write, and understand information
• The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
• Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
• Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
• Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
• Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
• Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
• Mentors and helps train other technicians
• Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
• Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
• Performs other duties as assigned
