About The Position

The Shop Porter - Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and organized fleet, equipment, and facility operations. This position ensures company vehicles, equipment, shop facilities, and operational yard areas are maintained in a clean, service-ready condition that enables field crews and operational teams to perform work safely and effectively. By managing vehicle preparation, facility upkeep, inventory movement, and logistical support activities, the Shop Porter contributes directly to operational readiness and workforce productivity. Working closely with mechanics, fleet personnel, operations staff, and field employees, the Shop Porter helps maintain a professional, organized, and safety-focused work environment. This position requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and a proactive approach to supporting daily business operations in a fast-paced utility vegetation management environment.

Requirements

  • HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, GED, OR EQUIVALENT PREFERRED.
  • RELEVANT VOCATIONAL OR TECHNICAL TRAINING IS A PLUS.
  • PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN A PORTER, LOT ATTENDANT, SHOP ASSISTANT, FLEET SUPPORT, WAREHOUSE, MAINTENANCE, LANDSCAPING, CONSTRUCTION, OR SIMILAR OPERATIONAL SUPPORT ROLE PREFERRED.
  • EXPERIENCE OPERATING TRUCKS, FLEET VEHICLES, TRAILERS, OR EQUIPMENT IS BENEFICIAL.
  • EXPERIENCE WORKING IN AN OUTDOOR, INDUSTRIAL, UTILITY, OR FIELD SERVICE ENVIRONMENT PREFERRED.
  • STRONG ORGANIZATIONAL AND TIME-MANAGEMENT SKILLS.
  • ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY WITH MINIMAL SUPERVISION.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, clean, vacuum, and detail company vehicles, trucks, and fleet assets to maintain professional appearance and operational readiness.
  • Inspect vehicles for cleanliness, damage, fluid levels, tire condition, and overall readiness.
  • Replenish fluids including windshield washer fluid, engine oil, coolant, and other approved vehicle fluids as directed.
  • Check and maintain tire pressure on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Jump-start vehicles and replace batteries when authorized and necessary.
  • Assist with vehicle staging, relocation, and parking throughout company yards, fleet lots, and maintenance areas.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle movements, inspections, and maintenance support activities as required.
  • Safely transport vehicles, equipment, and materials between designated locations.
  • Pick up automotive, equipment, and operational parts from local vendors and suppliers.
  • Receive, organize, and document incoming parts, materials, and deliveries.
  • Assist mechanics, fleet technicians, and operations personnel with routine daily tasks.
  • Support inventory organization and storage of parts, tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure tools, workspaces, and service areas are properly stocked, organized, and maintained.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop facilities, yards, parking areas, storage areas, and workspaces.
  • Sweep floors, remove debris, empty trash receptacles, and clean work areas as needed.
  • Assist with housekeeping activities throughout offices, break rooms, restrooms, and shop facilities.
  • Clean spills and address minor housekeeping issues promptly to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Support yard organization efforts including material storage, waste disposal, and general site appearance.
  • Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance concerns, hazards, or safety issues to management.
  • Follow all company safety policies, fleet procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing work duties.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Maintain compliance with company driving standards and fleet safety requirements.
  • Participate in required safety meetings, training programs, and company initiatives.
  • Immediately report incidents, near misses, property damage, or unsafe conditions.
