Shop Porter / Custodian
About The Position
Mid-Atlantic Truck & Equipment is seeking a dependable, self-motivated Shop Porter to maintain a clean, organized, and operational facility. This role involves both indoor and outdoor tasks, supporting technicians and the overall operation by keeping shop areas, parts areas, and grounds clean and tidy. The ideal candidate is reliable, proactive, and willing to assist wherever needed. Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance is beneficial, but training is available for the right individual. This position offers a hands-on, active role within an appreciative team environment.
Requirements
- Dependable team player with strong attention to detail
- Ability to perform physical tasks, work indoors and outdoors, and manage a variety of responsibilities
- Strong communication and time-management skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to safely perform the essential functions of the job
- Effective communication is necessary to understand and follow safety procedures and instructions, communicate with customers and team members, and complete required job-related documentation
Nice To Haves
- Background in custodial, janitorial, facility maintenance, or other hands-on work
- Forklift certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
Responsibilities
- Keep the facility clean, safe, and ready for the team by sweeping shop floors, emptying trash, cleaning bathrooms, washing windows, and keeping work areas free of debris
- Support the shop and warehouse teams with hands-on tasks such as loading and dumping forklift hoppers, cleaning equipment, keeping technician bays organized, and helping wherever needed
- Maintain the grounds and outdoor areas by mowing, weed trimming, spraying weed killer, and keeping the property looking clean and well maintained
- Help with basic facility upkeep including changing light bulbs, touch-up painting, and other minor maintenance tasks
- Operate a forklift and company vehicle to move materials and equipment and make local parts pickups
- Keep cleaning supplies stocked and organized
- Provide friendly, helpful support to customers, technicians, warehouse staff, and other team members
