The Shop Manager at TPC Sawgrass plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and safety of the entire fleet of turf maintenance equipment at one of the world's premier golf facilities. Reporting directly to the Director of Equipment Operations, this position oversees daily shop operations, preventive and corrective maintenance programs, parts inventory, technician supervision, and compliance with manufacturer specifications and TPC Network standards. The role supports the agronomy team's mission to deliver impeccable playing conditions year-round, with heightened focus during tournament preparations and THE PLAYERS Championship.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in golf course turf equipment management, maintenance, or a related heavy equipment/mechanical role; prior experience at a high-end club, resort, or TPC facility preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven expertise in turf equipment (e.g., Toro, John Deere, Jacobsen mowers; sprayers; utility vehicles).
  • Supervisory/leadership experience, with excellent team building and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance best practices, hydraulic/electrical systems, welding/fabrication, and reel mower grinding/setup.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts during peak periods or events.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, safety-focused, and able to thrive in a high-pressure, high-visibility environment.
  • Relevant certifications are preferred (e.g., GCSAA Equipment Manager certification, manufacturer training, or ASE equivalents).
  • You must pass background checks and meet TPC Network/PGA TOUR employment standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting major PGA TOUR events or championship-level course conditioning.
  • Familiarity with modern turf tech (e.g., GPS guidance, precision irrigation/chemical application equipment).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the equipment shop operations, including workflow, and daily oversight of maintenance activities to keep equipment fleet operational and ready for use.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for all turf equipment (mowers, sprayers, utility vehicles, tractors, blowers, etc.) to minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability.
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and rebuilds on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, diesel/gasoline engines, and other systems; ensure adherence to OEM specifications and agronomic cutting/setup standards (e.g., reel grinding, bedknife adjustments).
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and schedule equipment technicians and shop staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of service, repairs, parts usage, and equipment history using maintenance software/systems.
  • Ensure shop cleanliness, organization, safety compliance (OSHA, TPC policies), and proper tool/equipment storage; conduct regular safety inspections and training.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Equipment Operations on fleet budgeting, capital equipment recommendations, vendor relationships, warranty claims, and strategic initiatives (e.g., technology integration, autonomous equipment evaluation).
  • Support major events by preparing equipment for tournament conditions, coordinating special setups, and ensuring rapid response to any mechanical issues.
  • Train golf course maintenance staff on safe equipment operation, basic care, and reporting of issues.
  • Stay current with industry advancements, attend relevant training/seminars, and apply best practices to maintain TPC Sawgrass's elite standards.
