1st Shift - Shop Machinist

About The Position

The Shop Machinist supports the maintenance department by making and machining parts for various areas of the greenhouse and farm. The position operates precision equipment, repairs or replicates machined parts from drawings, and helps maintain parts inventory to reduce facility downtime. Work is primarily outdoors, with occasional work between locations and indoors for administrative duties. The role requires working in varying weather conditions and around dust and allergens, and may involve evenings and weekends as business needs arise and during peak seasons.

Requirements

At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around dust and allergens.
Ability to work at heights over 6 feet.
Ability to operate machinery required within the department and across the facility, and obtain required equipment certifications as necessary.
Ability to use and communicate via a two-way radio.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as business needs arise and during peak seasons.
Ability to lift 35 pounds unaided and regularly lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
Ability to stand, sit, squat, bend, reach, and twist for up to 8 or more hours per day, and to use fine motor skills including pinching, squeezing, and pulling.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of common hand tools and power tools.
Knowledge of precision measurement tools.
Experience operating a lathe, milling machine, drill press, or similar machinery.
Experience operating a forklift or willingness to be trained on one.
Self-motivated.
Welding experience, including MIG, stick, and TIG welding.

Responsibilities

Operate milling machines, lathes, drill presses, and other precision equipment.
Maintain an inventory of parts to shorten downtime throughout the facility.
Become familiar with all areas of the greenhouse to provide timely response and support.
Repair or replicate machined parts.
Read drawings and recreate items to match their specifications.
Load and unload trucks as needed.
Take detailed notes, including precise measurements.
Use computer systems to view and close work orders.
Work with the shop team to maintain a clean work area.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
