About The Position

Ballad Group is seeking a Shop Foreman – Pipeline & Reclamation Skill Development to play a key instructional and mentorship role within the WERC program. This position delivers hands-on, industry readiness simulations that prepare participants for employment in construction, pipeline maintenance, winter road operations, and site reclamation. Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Shop Foreman is responsible for the daily supervision, safety, and skill development of participants in a shop environment that simulates real-world oil and gas worksites. The successful candidate will adjust daily instruction based on participant needs, seasonal labour demand, and current employment gaps in the region. This position takes place in our Whitecourt Training centre. This is a part-time position taking place 4 days per week.

Requirements

  • Ticketed trades professional with relevant education and certifications.
  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Shop Foreman or equivalent supervisory role.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction and building practices.
  • Experience facilitating groups in a formal or jobsite training environment.
  • Proven ability to work with unemployed or employment-barriered individuals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on safety and accountability.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating equipment such as a scissor lift or skid steer.
  • WHMIS, First Aid, H2S Alive, Confined Space Awareness certifications.
  • Experience with pre-employment programs and local labour markets.
  • Exposure to diversity, inclusion, and community-based programming.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and instruct groups of participants in a shop setting that simulates a oil & gas environment.
  • Guide productivity, teamwork, and safe work practices.
  • Build strong, credible relationships with participants using trauma-informed, culturally competent approaches.
  • Identify potential emergency situations and collaborate with program staff on effective responses.
  • Actively seek solutions to challenges involving participants, staff, and partners.
  • Collaborate with the program team to develop and update shop-based training aligned with industry standards and employment gaps.
  • Customize workshops to reflect labour market demand and seasonality.
  • Prepare instructional materials, tools, and equipment for daily use.
  • Assist with procurement of tools, materials, and consumables.
  • Prepare reports and liaise with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are strictly followed.
  • Identify equipment maintenance and mechanical repair needs.
  • Oversee shop protocols, procedures, and inventory controls.
  • Participate as an active member of the Health & Safety Committee, including monthly meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all operational regulations.
  • Set up and maintain shop equipment and workspaces.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tools and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, staff, employers, and partners.
  • Support program evaluations and continuous improvement.
  • General shop and office setup and maintenance.
