About The Position

A Shop Diesel Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical issues on diesel-powered vehicles within a shop environment, performing routine maintenance, utilizing diagnostic tools to identify problems, and ensuring vehicles meet safety and emission standards by completing repairs according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices; requiring a strong understanding of diesel engine systems, electrical components, and hydraulics, as well as proficiency with specialized repair tools and diagnostic software.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a certified diesel technician training program
  • Several years of experience as a diesel technician in a shop environment

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of diesel vehicles to identify malfunctions, including checking fluid levels, inspecting engine components, and performing diagnostic tests using computer-aided systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and inspections to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal vehicle performance.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble various diesel engine components including fuel systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, transmission, brakes, and exhaust systems.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts on diesel vehicles, ensuring proper fit and function.
  • Utilize technical manuals and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and identify root causes of malfunctions.
  • Conduct test drives to verify repairs and ensure proper vehicle functionality.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and service performed on each vehicle.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and industry standards, including DOT inspections and emission control requirements.
