About The Position

Cox Fleet is seeking a Shop Diesel Technician II to support the company's growth. This role involves performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and diagnostics on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. The technician will have opportunities to learn advanced diagnostic and repair techniques under supervision and is expected to meet high performance metrics while adhering to company policies.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, OR any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline; or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
• Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
• A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
• Candidates must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
• Safe drivers needed and 3 YR MVR review required.
• Must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.
• Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
• Ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
• Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without tiring, which may include performing repetitive tasks.
• Communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner.
• Engages in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.
• Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
• Ability to accurately judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from the observer, or the distance between an object and the observer.
• Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• ASE T8 (PMI) certification required or obtained within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
• Conduct light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics.
• Perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Shop Diesel Technician or higher.
• Continue to learn advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
• Comply with all company policies and achieve high-level performance metrics.
• Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
• Independently determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and assist in cleanup of tools, parts, and equipment.
• Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform job duties.
• Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
• Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments on prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
• Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, and keep commitments.
• Behave in a consistent manner, keeping sensitive information confidential and adhering to ethical and professional standards.
• Occasionally travel and perform work at customer locations.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
• Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued device and/or Karmak application.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
• Communicate with Shop Manager and support team for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
• Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
• Participate and complete all company-required safety training.
• Maintain Shop assigned service trucks, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
• Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
• Assist Shop Diesel Technician I with diagnostics.
