About The Position

A well-established structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication company is seeking a highly dependable, organized, hands-on individual to support the day-to-day operations of its steel fabrication shop in Wickenburg, AZ. The Shop Assistant is critical to keeping projects, materials, and shop operations moving efficiently by providing coordination, tracking, documentation, and operational support to shop leadership and fabrication teams. This role plays an important part in the overall efficiency and organization of the shop. This is not just a general labor role — the long-term goal is to find someone who can become a trusted right-hand support person within the shop and gradually take ownership of key day-to-day operational responsibilities. We are looking for someone the team can genuinely rely on long-term — a person who takes pride in ownership, keeps things organized, and helps ensure projects and materials continue moving forward efficiently each day.

Requirements

  • Strong comprehension and ability to process and retain information
  • Highly organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
  • Someone who naturally takes ownership and follows through
  • Comfortable working independently once trained
  • Ability to prioritize and stay organized in a fast-paced shop environment
  • Willing to be on their feet, work hard, and get hands dirty
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding and hot shop environment
  • Comfortable with repetitive and detail-oriented work
  • Basic computer skills, especially Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Tekla experience is a plus, but willingness to learn is important
  • Experience reading fabrication drawings preferred, or strong willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Receive and organize incoming steel materials, including I-beams, tube steel, and structural components
  • Help track and move materials throughout fabrication, painting, galvanizing, cleanup, and yard staging
  • Assist with shop coordination and material flow across projects
  • Read and reference fabrication drawings
  • Utilize Tekla software and Excel for tracking, organization, and project support
  • Take detailed notes, retain instructions, and help maintain organization across multiple moving pieces
  • Support shop operations wherever needed in a hands-on environment
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop and yard
