The Company's Shop Assistant Trainee program is a program that goes through multiple steps, with tests and homework at each step. After Step 2 (9mos) they move to shop Assistant. Complete training will be after 27 months and completion of all step 5 homework assignments and tests. After completion of the Shop Assistant Program, this position can lead to Shop Repair Worker or Shop Electrician, if positions are available.

Requirements

  • Shop Assistant Trainee is a program that goes through steps, with tests and homework at each step. After Step 2 (9mos), the successful candidate will move to Shop Assistant. Training should be completed after 27 months and completion of all step (5) homework assignments and tests.
  • 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Highly prefer candidates who are electrically or mechanically inclined.
  • Safe operation of a forklift (previous forklift skills are highly preferred).
  • Banding equipment to pallets.
  • Assisting in the recycling of electrical equipment using tools such as hammers, wrenches, electric hand tools, hoists, etc.
  • Climbing on and off 4 foot plus trailers per day using three point of contact mounted climbing devices on various equipment.
  • Working at heights of up to 15 feet.
  • Climbing on and off forklifts 25 plus times per day using three points of contact.
  • Handling material up to 75 pounds on uneven surfaces in outside elements, includes walking with material for up to 50 feet.
  • Standing on concrete floors, bending and squatting for extended periods of time.
  • Ascending ladders with equipment and tools to make repairs on top of electrical equipment.
  • Standing on ladders and reaching overhead to attach rigging equipment to electrical equipment.
  • Wearing respirator while painting electrical equipment for an extended period of time.
  • Lifting, reaching overhead to get tools and equipment to work platforms, lift, support or brace equipment.
  • Working with various forklifts, banding machine, pallet jack, power steam washer, commercial paint equipment, industrial sweeper, yard jockey truck.

Nice To Haves

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.
  • Previous forklift skills are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Shop Electricians and Shop Repairmen with repairs to 1 phase and 3 phase equipment (Transformers, Regulators Circuit Breakers, etc.), Tools, Mobiles, Switches, etc.;
  • Painting using a robot and air guns.
  • Receiving equipment using handheld computer devices within SAP.
  • Deciphering BOL’s (Bill of Lading), determine where received material should be directed.
  • Operating Forklifts of varying classes.
  • Reading data plates.
  • Working safely.
  • Operating of Yard Jockey (Shifter).
  • Handling oil receiving and sampling-Handling Chemicals, paint, oils, etc.
  • Handling and sorting scrap materials and HAZMAT.
