About The Position

Assists the Shop Manager in the operation and management of the Company's ranch equipment shop in Corcoran, which is organized into 6 departments with a staff of approximately 100 full-time employees. This position exists to support overall shop and ranching operations, ensuring that shop priorities and workflow stay in sync with the operational priorities of the farm. This includes, but is not limited to, diesel mechanic troubleshooting oversight, weld procedure development, quality control, fabrication and design projects, hydraulic system analysis and design, and in-house technical assistance and training. This position manages all engineering projects and maintenance requirements for the Paul Athorp Shop.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Systems Management (ASM), Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BRAE), or equivalent.
Ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.
Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Demonstrated knowledge of proper layout and weld design for complex fabrication projects.
Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and manage engineering and fabrication projects from concept through completion.
Demonstrated knowledge of industrial agricultural equipment and processes.
Valid California driver's license, with fewer than two points, required before hire and maintained throughout employment.
Able to read, write, and speak English.
Able to read and interpret documents such as safety and government regulations, operating and maintenance manuals, hydraulic and electrical schematics, and dimensioned technical drawings.
Able to take verbal and written direction from supervisors and communicate effectively in return.
Able to give clear verbal and written direction to subordinates.
Able to prepare detailed reports and other technical and financial documents for management and others.
Able to effectively present information to senior management, public groups, and/or the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

Assists the Shop Manager in overseeing all repair and maintenance activities assigned to the shop.
Develops maintenance procedures and programs for all classes of equipment across the shop.
Assists the Shop Manager with supervision of all shop employees, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing and resolving workplace complaints.
Designs and drafts, using AutoCAD and SolidWorks, modifications and new additions to equipment serviced by the shop, including design calculations and strength-of-materials analysis.
Leads all engineering and design activities at the Paul Athorp Shop.
Uses computer programs to prepare financial reports and to access and analyze operational data about shop activities to improve efficiency and manage costs.
Assists the Shop Manager in improving the shop's safety and environmental programs.
Assists department supervisors with quality control and the design and layout of repairs and projects.
Assists mechanics with troubleshooting and repair of mechanical drive systems, hydraulic systems, and other systems on agricultural machinery.
Travels to the field to work independently on the tasks above.
Works between 45 and 60 hours per week, and as needed, to support shop and field operations.
