About The Position

The Shipping Supervisor is a first-line Supervisor responsible for managing the shipping schedule and all associated functions for Brenham Operations. This role is responsible for executing the bundling of manufactured/fabricated products and shipping to ensure efficient and timely transportation services. The incumbent will oversee the organization and control of the Shipping and Material Handling operations. Through subordinate staff, this person is responsible for using the most cost-efficient means of product receipt and delivery to and from internal and external customers/suppliers while meeting deadlines. This is an on-site professional exemption salaried position.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with seven (7) years relevant experience or (nine) 9 years of relevant experience.
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership, problem solving, planning, communication, and motivational skills.
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast paced environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Forklift operation experience and ability to obtain Valmont standards certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental safety and requirements.
  • The ability to motivate, develop and direct people; identify the best person for each task at hand.
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of related work experience and a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional work experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing methodology and tools.
  • Knowledge of management principles for strategic planning and resource allocation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains authorized staffing levels and initiates appropriate documents to fill vacancies.
  • Interviews candidates and selects candidates for open positions.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with transportation providers/carriers.
  • Ensuring quality inspections of products/services produced.
  • Provides operational leadership for the site’s distribution operations to meet/exceed all customer fulfillment requirements and cost objectives.
  • Assists with investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
  • Training /cross-training of employees in new operations and methods.
  • Manages overall employee performance while ensuring a safe work area, appropriate staffing levels, and documenting appropriate corrective action.
  • Assist employee set goals and objectives as well as assist staff with work progress.
  • Monitor and complete staff performance reviews.
  • Implement procedures to maximize operating efficiency and reduce potential injuries.
  • Lead, facilitate and promote teams to meet the challenge of continuous improvement.
  • Attend professional development courses.
  • Help identify employee training needs.
  • Ensure that standard methods are used.
  • Recommend changes in layout, processes or methods to improve operations and lower costs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of assigned personnel’s time and production counts.
  • Report discrepancies in specifications, methods, engineering data, standards, etc. to the corresponding authority.
  • Develop positive relationships with assigned employees to create pride in operations, housekeeping, safety and other accomplishments.
  • Take action to keep equipment and work area clean.
  • Promote a participative productivity climate and encourage assigned employees to submit suggestions for improvement on operations.
  • Implement worthwhile ideas and keep employees informed of status.
  • Keep managers advised of employee requests, complaints, and suggestions and provide prompt feedback to employees.
  • Be ultimately responsible for the implantation of shop safety practices.
  • Work with HR to keep job descriptions up-to-date and accurate as the job changes in scope and content.
  • Determine staffing requirements, interview applicants and on-board new hires.
  • Ensure that monthly safety and department meetings are held and participate in Lean related activities.
  • Promote cell and team development.
  • Ensure that training is provided to appointed team members and leaders.
  • Provide mechanisms to track/chart productivity goals and exercise guidance in productivity improvement.
  • Remain cognizant of the ever-changing environmental regulations and assure each cell is within compliance.
  • Provide training/information so that there is continuous awareness.
  • Maintain records on any first aids, OSHA recordable, lost-time injuries and property damage.
  • Control orders, preventative maintenance, housekeeping and administrative functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
