About The Position

Leads day-to-day operational activities pertaining to the Shipping Department. Ensures material is picked, packed, shipped on time and in an efficient manner. Effectively delegates workload to department leads and personnel, all while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This role involves managing daily operational reports, coordinating with various departments (Sales, Logistics, QC, Receiving, Front Office), processing picking tickets, supporting Will-call traffic, managing loading dock space, and training personnel on company processes and procedures. The position also requires identifying areas for improvement, maintaining a safe work environment, and managing shipping personnel in picking, packing, checking, and shipping processes. The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for organizing and managing a team of 7 to 10 employees.

Requirements

  • Speak and read English.
  • 3+ years PVF industry experience
  • Ability to read and understand industry specifications, charts, and tables
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
  • Must have average reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand and operate a variety of equipment as assigned
  • Takes initiative and can work independently
  • Requires a high level of attention to detail
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and priorities

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all department equipment is in proper working condition (forklifts, pickers, crane, hand tools, etc.)
  • Effectively communicate with department supervisors and upper management.
  • Utilize email to communicate with Receiving, Front Office, and Sales Departments.
  • Manage Daily operational reports to identify workload and utilize OT as needed.
  • Coordinate with Sales on any request, priority levels, and any issues that may arise.
  • Coordinate with Logistics on outbound shipments (flatbeds, Motor freight, hot shots, etc.).
  • Coordinate with QC on material discrepancies and non-conforming stock material.
  • Process and handle picking tickets by effectively communicating with Sales, Department Supervisors, and QC.
  • Support Will-call traffic by efficiently loading orders in a timely manner.
  • Manage loading dock space daily by communicating with Logistics and Sales.
  • Effectively train personnel on company processes and procedures, submit training records, and identify areas that need additional training.
  • Attend production meetings to identify departmental issues and discuss ways to correct them.
  • Identify areas of improvement while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Manage shipping personnel on picking, packing, checking, and shipping processes.
  • Effectively organize and manage a team of 7 to 10 employees.
  • Visually inspect material and verify heat number(s) of each line item written on the Product Release.
  • Ensure Product Release is properly filled out and marking on the material matches what is written on the release.
  • Ensure information on the wrapped pallet is properly written.
  • Ensure the BOL is placed on the correct orders prior to shipment.
  • Coordinate with sales on Quality Changes on Orders, Hot Shipments, Cancelation Requests, Ship via, Material Discrepancy’s, Order Substitutions, Project Orders.
  • Ensure vehicles are correctly loaded in a timely manner for Will Calls and Small Parcel Shipments.
  • Photo verify each shipment leaving the shipping dock.
  • Verify all Small Parcel Shipments are packaged correctly, labelled, and sent UPS same day.
  • Ensure the shipping dock is organized and clear for forklift traffic.
  • Ensure all shipments are placed in the correct lanes for shipment.
  • Perform daily checks for missed shipments.
  • Train on Department Work Instructions & Job Scope.
  • Train on Quality Policy and Department Processes.
  • Conduct meetings and submit training records.
  • Perform Quarterly competency reviews on personnel.
  • Effectively identify areas that need additional training.
  • Hold brief daily safety meetings with department personnel.
  • Maintain clear aisle ways and organize racks and dock space.
  • Perform Quarterly maintenance on equipment (hand tools, pickers, forklifts, etc.).
  • Enforce and monitor “Lock-out/Tag-out” protocol.
  • Communicate equipment breakdowns and safety hazards to upper management and HSE.
  • Create and implement a safe work environment.
