About The Position

Supports the Shipping Department to ensure shipments are on time. This role requires a basic understanding of warehouse procedures, including the layout and bin location system. The individual will be responsible for gathering materials for packaging and shipment, ensuring efficient loading and unloading of vehicles, and verifying the accuracy of loads and documentation. Key duties include receiving materials, transacting inventory, accurately loading trucks, making decisions regarding shipping costs and service levels, and coordinating staging and loading schedules. The role also involves tagging and placing incoming materials, operating a forklift safely, performing cycle counts, and understanding domestic and international shipping requirements. Communication with freight carriers, preparation of freight claims, and providing freight quotes are essential. The position requires maintaining shipment files, responding to customer inquiries, providing guidance within the department, and assisting with freight-related billing issues. Ensuring proper freight preparation and packing, understanding company policies, and promoting a continuous safety awareness attitude are also crucial. The role encourages the utilization of continuous improvement methods and requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of warehouse procedures.
  • Understand the layout of the warehouse and bin location system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills with experience utilizing Microsoft Teams for internal collaboration.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and office equipment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a forklift operator’s license.

  • A minimum of twelve months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers materials/product from the warehouse to package/assemble for shipment or customer pick-up.
  • Ensures the efficient loading and unloading of all vehicles.
  • Verifies accuracy/receipt of loads, shippers, logs, bills of lading.
  • Assures that received, picked and shipped parts are properly identified, counts are accurate, and parts are properly labeled.
  • Receives in material and outside service work. Can transact inventory for use in the manufacturing process.
  • Efficiently and accurately loads trucks with correct products, counts and space utilization.
  • Makes decisions balancing cost and service levels related to shipping.
  • Coordinates timing of staging loads, organizing trucks, and loading resources throughout the day.
  • Tags and places incoming material to the proper bin locations in the warehouse for future use.
  • Operates a forklift in a safe manner without damaging parts.
  • Performs Cycle Counting.
  • Understands both domestic and international shipping requirements.
  • Coordinates/Schedules the shipping of materials with various freight carriers.
  • Prepares freight claims and follows up as needed.
  • Prepares freight quotes to ensure cost effective and efficient means of transportation are used.
  • Communicates with customers concerning freight issues.
  • Maintains shipment files, issues reports and responds to customer inquiries.
  • Provides guidance within the department for the shipping and warehouse area issues.
  • Assists the Accounting/Finance department with billing issues relating to freight.
  • Ensures that freight is prepared and packed properly.
  • Understands company policies and procedures.
  • Supports a continuous safety awareness attitude and follows all safety policies, procedures and rules.
  • Utilizes and practices methods for continuous improvement.
