About The Position

This position is a dual responsibility position within the Shipping & receiving department. It will be the responsibility of this position to assist Shipping & Receiving with daily shipping and receiving tasks as well as filling in for drivers on our local straight truck DSD routes. The ratio of time in each different position will be determined by the seasonal business needs throughout the year. This person will play a key role in proper allocation of labor needs based on seasonal market conditions.

  • Able to provide “eggs”-cellent customer service.
  • Proficiency in operating tandem axle straight delivery trucks. Willing to learn to operate other classes such as 10-wheeler grain trucks, etc.
  • The right candidate will be willing to work towards a CDL-A.
  • Be proficient in or willing to learn pallet jack/forklift operation
  • Ability to work independently with or without direct supervision.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Efficiency minded in warehousing and delivery routes.
  • Shows strong initiative in warehousing and deliveries.
  • Able to work extended periods in a cold environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CDL-B required with a clean motor vehicle record
  • 2 years combined warehousing/delivery experience
  • Able to maintain DOT Medical Certificate

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of food processing plant operations is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Check paperwork before unloading, counting all items to make sure they match the paperwork.
  • Inspect all items for damage. Report all damage to a supervisor immediately.
  • Make sure incoming product is put away in the correct place.
  • Label all incoming products with a run number or date received.
  • Keep coolers, dock and warehouse clean and organized (wash trucks, sweep floors, etc.).
  • Ensure all pallets and racks are wrapped securely.
  • Before loading a truck, work with supervisor to map out the load.
  • Make sure the truck is clean and odor free.
  • Secure dock plate before loading. Cardboard must be used under flat plates to avoid slipping.
  • Double check invoices and load sheets to be sure correct items are being placed on the pallet.
  • When building pallets, ensure proper rotation (first in, first out).
  • Record run numbers on the load sheets and invoices and all initial invoices.
  • Make sure all pallets and racks are wrapped securely before loading.
  • Handle all products carefully. If any damage occurs, report all damages to a supervisor, and do not ship damaged product.
  • Load trucks using load bars and straps.
  • Make sure all trucks are locked if they are moved away from the dock.
  • Assist Shipping and Receiving with loading the truck.
  • Ensure load is properly secured.
  • Perform pre-trip inspection (refrigeration temperature, and DOT truck safety items).
  • Safely drive to destination.
  • Unload correct order.
  • Interact with receiving individuals in a professional, positive manner.
  • At each stop verify refrigeration temperature and security of load.
  • Accurately complete all paperwork (bill of lading, SQF documents, logbook, and vehicle inspection report).
  • May be assigned to other Class B driving tasks such as: Shuttle eggs/supplies between Clarence and Basom facilities, moving trucks between farms or shop facilities, shifting CDL trucks in the processing plant yard to docks/parking spaces.
  • May be assigned to help maintain/inspect equipment, cleaning empty trucks, etc.
