The Shipping Operator I prepares pipe for shipment and makes final repairs prior to shipment. This role follows all safety policies and initiates safety improvements. The operator consults with the team leader or shipping list to determine which pipe is required for shipping preparation. They read, understand, and interpret specifications for pipe finishing and for bracing pipe in preparation for shipping. The operator maintains a daily production log and submits it on a daily basis. They assist drivers to position components/pipes properly and complete daily inspections. The role involves measuring wood pieces for stulling or bracing pipe, selecting proper wood pieces, cutting and shaping as required for proper fit in pipe and installation. They place bracings in completed pipe according to shipping specifications, place end caps on pipe, and position bunks onto trucks or rail cars. The operator bands individual pipes and pipe groupings to rail cars. Performs other tasks as instructed by management.
