About The Position

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, the Shipping Associate will discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale, contributing to the mission of making the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. This role is responsible for preparing, packing, and shipping finished goods via domestic LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) and parcel carriers. The Shipping Associate ensures all shipments are packaged securely, labeled correctly, and shipped on time to meet customer expectations while maintaining quality and safety standards. The position involves developing solutions for global challenges like environmental protection, food safety, and cancer research.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year of experience in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing environment is required
  • Ability to read and interpret packing instructions, work orders, and shipping documents
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience with LTL and parcel shipping processes strongly preferred
  • Experience with shipping systems or ERP (SAP a plus)
  • Experience building crates or custom packaging solutions
  • Familiarity with freight class, dimensions, and shipping cost impacts
  • Knowledge of basic carrier requirements for LTL and parcel shipments

Responsibilities

  • Pack and crate products according to company standards to ensure safe transit
  • Build custom crates and use appropriate packaging materials to protect fragile or high-value items
  • Prepare and process domestic shipments using LTL and parcel carriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS)
  • Accurately label shipments and verify shipping documentation
  • Weigh, measure, and record shipment details for carrier compliance and cost accuracy
  • Coordinate with shipping office or supervisors to prioritize daily shipments
  • Load and stage shipments for carrier pickup
  • Inspect finished goods prior to shipment to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Maintain inventory of packaging materials and notify leadership of shortages
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools and equipment
  • Keep shipping and staging areas clean and organized
  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory movement, or material handling as needed
