About The Position

The Shipping Lead coordinates outbound shipments and supports the daily activities of the shipping department. This is a hands-on role responsible for helping prioritize workflow, releasing shipments, verifying shipment accuracy and documentation, and coordinating freight claims.

Requirements

Must be able to operate facility warehouse machines including but not limited to forklifts, overhead crane, pallet jack, sealers, and label printing systems.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to provide work direction without direct supervisory authority.
Must maintain confidentiality when dealing with people, projects, and issues and be able to handle multiple functions and meet deadlines.
High School Diploma/GED
5 to 7 years of experience required
Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to grasp, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers to touch, pick or pinch objects; reach with hands and arms; push or pull; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use foot or leg controls; talk or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 75 pounds with assistance.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

Experience with IMI Series (AS400), UPS, and FedEx is preferred.
Experience providing team-level workflow or process guidance is also preferred.
Experience with Varsity Shipping software a bonus.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the daily shipping workflow and communicate work priorities to help the department complete required tasks in a timely manner.
Review customer order summaries and other records to determine top priorities and daily work assignments.
Monitor outgoing shipping activities to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
Release shipments in the system with the correct shipping method and tracking numbers.
Verify that outbound carrier selections and collection status are correct before shipping material.
Prepare and verify Bills of Lading in coordination with the logistics coordinator.
Prepare and assist with completing the annual physical inventory process.
Review inventory locations and quantities and initiate inventory transaction adjustments as needed.
Communicate with freight carriers to coordinate shipping requirements and schedule pickup times.
Coordinate, review, and inspect all freight claims.
Ensure all products are correctly packaged, labeled, and safeguarded for transit and storage.
Ensure necessary supplies, cartons, skids, and other shipping products are stocked and order more as needed.
Provide day-to-day process guidance and hands-on support to shipping employees, and escalate personnel or performance concerns to the Warehouse Supervisor or Supply Chain Manager.
Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.
