About The Position

The 1st Shift Shipping Lead will be responsible for managing and coordinating daily activities for the shipping department across all three shifts. This role requires a minimum of five years of forklift experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably corrugated. The candidate will spend a portion of their shift assisting with various forklift duties, ensuring all work is performed in a safe, clean, and productive environment. This position promotes safety and housekeeping by following established safety rules and procedures. The Lead will work closely with customer service, production planning, finishing, accounting, and sales to ensure customer satisfaction, manage warehouse space effectively, and oversee baled waste contracts and the Returned Goods process. They will also manage inventory at customer locations with the sales team and ensure the integrity of the shipping bill of lading process. Additionally, the Lead will schedule truck deliveries for optimal efficiency, considering freight costs, and organize teams to verify load quantities, weight, and quality. They will ensure lift drivers maintain up-to-date training and coach the shipping team for improved efficiency. Maintaining the integrity of finished goods inventory, tracking inventory, and understanding the costs associated with the shipping department, including pallet expenses, are also key responsibilities. The role requires the ability to learn and understand machine line-ups.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years forklift experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably corrugated).
  • 2 years of manufacturing/shipping lead experience preferred.
  • 5 years PIT operations preferred (corrugated experience a plus).
  • Able to lead and drive training/certification process for Shipping Department.
  • Capable of filling in for PIT Operators during vacations, absences, etc.
  • Ability to solve problems with minimal assistance.
  • Provide daily feedback to supervisor regarding all aspects of shipping department.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees, supervisors, managers, etc.
  • Be able to interpret and understand order layouts.
  • Must have good computer skills (data entry, etc.) and be able to perform basic arithmetic including additions, subtractions, multiplications and division.
  • Always Comply with all IPS Safety rules and Quality policies and protocols, must follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Must have ability to learn and understand machine line ups.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules deliveries per customer demands.
  • Cost analysis for all deliveries and customer pick-ups.
  • Maintains relationship with contracted truckers for best rates.
  • Organize teams to guarantee loads are checked for correct quantities, weight, and quality of loads.
  • Guarantees that lift drivers maintain up to date training, coaches and facilitates the shipping team for better efficiency.
  • Maintains the integrity of finished goods inventory inside the facility.
  • Works closely with accounting and customer service to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Responsible for tracking inventory.
  • Maintains and keeps current the overall knowledge of costs associated with the shipping department.
  • Manages costs relative to pallet expenses.
  • Lead and drive safety requirements and expectations by example.
  • Assist supervisor in weekly scheduling process.
