About The Position

This position is responsible for performing tasks involved in the shipping of materials, supplies, and equipment. The role includes participating in problem-solving activities and contributing to quality improvements. Equipment used includes motorized fork trucks and manual pull jacks. The clerk will operate a data entry terminal and actively promote a teamwork atmosphere, supporting team development. Key responsibilities involve assisting and guiding team members in the shipping department, ensuring deadlines are met, adhering to company policies, and conducting employee training. The role also requires recording shortages, corresponding with shippers to rectify damages, examining incoming shipments, and assembling or coordinating containers. Attaching Bills of Lading, examining outgoing shipments for specifications, reporting unsafe conditions, and maintaining the cleanliness of the work area are also crucial duties. A good understanding of packaging products and maintaining a good attendance record are essential. A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 2 years of experience required.
  • Knowledge of UPS Worldship/FEDEX Ship manager/Creating LTL BOL’S and versed in international shipping.
  • Past ERP Experience/Computer knowledge.
  • General computer knowledge.
  • High degree of diplomacy and the ability to deal with and influence people in all types of positions.
  • Familiar with a variety of field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct interaction with team members involved in shipping, assisting and guiding employees on issues related to the shipping department.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for employee training.
  • Record shortages and correspond with shippers to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Examine incoming shipments and reject damaged items.
  • Weigh or measure items of outgoing shipments to verify information against travelers or other records.
  • Assemble or coordinate wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers.
  • Attach Bills of Lading to shipping containers.
  • Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Management.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and general housekeeping of the Company.
  • Understand and have good knowledge of packaging products.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
