About The Position

Heartland Sheets, an affiliate of Schwarz Partners and corrugated manufacturing industry leader, currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Shipping Clerk in Kansas City, MO. The Shipping Clerk Coordinates and directs two (2) or more Forklift Operators, schedules truck drivers’ runs, and manages all aspects of shipping, including shipping cost, MSF/Trailer and on-time deliveries. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Four years’ experience in an Office Setting, preferred.
  • 2-year office experience, preferred.
  • Ability to understand, design and operate equipment in a way that can be translated into efficient operation and that supports management role of teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.
  • Ability to understand economic factors and cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the Managment find areas that require improvement.
  • Ability to understand and implement quality standards.
  • Ability to understand and implement regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DEQ, and EEO.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft applications; Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Basic shipping applications.
  • Ability to apply proper understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Attention to details.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
  • Ability to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety and company policies, reporting any issues, accidents or incidents immediately; must complete online safety training each month as assigned; complete monthly behavior and audit cards.

  • Coordinate with scheduler, Customer Service team & colleagues to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Ensure that all orders, export containers and bale containers are properly produced, loaded, billed, shipped and delivered on time and in accordance with all customer requirements, customs requirements, and any other legal requirements.
  • Create shipments for customer orders and deliveries in the most cost-efficient and time-saving manner possible.
  • Adhere to daily production schedule; make recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery and service goals.
  • Prepare bills for all loads to deliver.
  • Make all changes on dispatch and inform all carriers and customers.
  • Have all scrap bales picked up and loaded & all scrap off machines and properly placed in designated area / location before end of the shift.
  • Contact customers regarding issues and load delivery changes.
  • Improve career skills by enrolling in seminars, technical courses, and related college courses, with approval of manager.
  • Develop strong rapport with various freight line representatives.
  • Receive customer returns.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicate with management regarding problems or situations that may affect the performance of the Shipping Department and identify and carry out strategies to solve those problems and situations.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Coordinate outbound orders with and assign loads to trailers.
  • Maintain outbound documentation.
  • Oversee all finished goods are stored.
