About The Position

Insteel Industries is seeking an experienced Forklift professional for a full-time position in their Shipping/Receiving department. The role involves operating forklifts to make inventory transfers, move materials (such as raw materials and finished product), and ensure all tasks are completed with a focus on safety and minimizing risk to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), aiming for ZERO HARM. The position requires knowledge of safety procedures, ability to load trucks, monitor dumpsters, stage raw materials, and use computer systems for inventory entries and cycle counts. The operator will also visually check product quality and may be required to train others.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete simple forms and understand simple written instructions.
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' forklift experience required in heavy material handling and moving responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess a high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of safety equipment and safety procedures for shipping/receiving operations.
  • Maintain good housekeeping/neat work area while loading and unloading material.
  • Obtain a forklift operator certification.
  • Safely operate equipment in a close-quarter shipping yard with various materials, trucks, and employees present.
  • Load flatbed trucks and handle various materials in various sizes, shapes, and weights.
  • Empty and monitor scrap dumpsters.
  • Stage raw material (steel rod) at appropriate machines.
  • Make computer entries of shipping material and cycle count quantities into the appropriate systems.
  • Visually check quality of finished product.
  • Work closely with production employees.
  • Train others as needed.
  • Make inventory transfers in computer.
  • Move materials (such as raw materials, finished product, etc.) in shipping areas using forklifts.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed with risk lowered to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), specifically in an effort to achieve ZERO HARM to accomplish no injuries, illness or negative impact to employees, property, the environment or the community.
