About The Position

The Boeing Company's Defense, Space & Security (BDS) division is seeking a Ship Suitability Engineer (Level 5) to join the Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) Team in Berkeley, MO. This role is part of the BDS Air Dominance Systems Engineering core group in St. Louis, Missouri, and will focus on Ship Suitability functions across core operations and individual programs. The engineer will support the development and maintenance of processes and tools, acting as the "user/customer advocate" for naval programs to ensure operational quality in Boeing's products. Key responsibilities include collaborating with Boeing Integrated Product Teams and the maritime customer to integrate systems into the shipboard environment, addressing aspects like launch and recovery, deck handling, ship communication, and shipboard qualification testing. The role involves analyzing designs, participating in trade studies, developing concepts, and assisting with test plans for air-ship integration of weapons systems. Additionally, the engineer will lead and support training initiatives to educate Boeing and customer engineers on naval aviation operations, procedures, equipment, and environments relevant to ship suitability. Training may involve classroom sessions and hands-on experience aboard ships at sea and land-based facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 9+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of naval aviation operations, aircraft maintainability and logistics support, and/or aircraft systems knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Military or civilian experience working on U.S. Navy carriers or aviation-capable ships, preferably related to aircraft integration, deck handling, and/or test.
  • Experience in design, integration, and/or test of U.S. Navy carrier-based aircraft.
  • Experience with engineering analysis.
  • Experience with course development and/or course instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
