About The Position

Gulf Marine Repair of Tampa, FL is looking to hire full-time Ship Fitters for their shipyard. This position involves working closely with the Iron Worker department to address engineering deficiencies, structural irregularities, vessel modifications, and steel replacement. Responsibilities include performing material take-offs for cost accounting, preparing steel assemblies for welders, and repairing or renewing various equipment as needed. The role requires a practical test prior to starting, which includes a timed welding test and a fitting exercise to demonstrate proficiency in preparing and fitting a steel insert. Candidates must provide their own ship fitter tools.

Requirements

Follows ABS / USCG fitting requirements
Will work independently with minimal supervision
Conflict management, leadership, team building and time management skills will be used
Attention to detail, organizational, problem solving, analytical, critical thinking and decision making skills will be used
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Two (2) years of ship fitting experience
Must have tools; employer does not provide tools
