About The Position

Camp Counselors help plan, lead, and implement camp programs for campers. They also provide high-quality educational opportunities in an enjoyable environment that encourages growth through safe playtime. The Camp Counselor will help plan events and lead group activities to monitor the well-being of each camper in their room, outside. If a problem arises, such as behavioral issues or accidents, they can respond quickly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all campers at Day Camp. Camp Counselors work directly with campers to ensure their safety and enjoyment while at Shine Day Camp. They must also work with other employees to coordinate activities, and they may need to work with parents when situations arise. Camp Counselors work together as a team.

Requirements

  • Age 16 years or older
  • Completed Ministry with Minors application
  • clean background check
  • Working inside of successful teams with proven results
  • a demonstrated ability to problem-solve with teams
  • able to work collaboratively with peers

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in camp, day camps preferred.
  • Experience working with kids preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with supervising staff
  • Ensure that a robust and healthy spiritual life exists for yourself and your family, including an ongoing accountability relationship
  • Promote healthy and appropriate relationships with children and their families
  • Maintain an active and engaged team relationship with other staff members
  • Understand current cultural demographic of families we serve and incorporate best practices to help shape ministry to kids and their families
  • Ensure the safety and security of children in our care through the active engagement
  • Commit to excellence in maintaining and developing a positive learning environment
  • Ensure that Shine Day Camp operates with organization and integrity
  • Prepare room, create a welcoming environment
  • Greet campers, welcome new campers and parents
  • Familiarity with day camps and various outdoor activities
  • Patient and reliable
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Energetic and positive personality
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities, running, crouching, being engaged all day with the camp activities)
  • Oversee children, making sure all follow safety rules
  • Ensure day camp is clean that campers don’t litter inside or outside building
  • Demonstrate the qualities of a follower of Jesus Christ, with a passion to love God, live in community with those in the body of Christ and extend the love of God to those seeking Him.
  • Show a strong commitment to Ward Church’s mission and values.
