About The Position

Day Camp Counselors provide quality recreational experiences and supervision for youth ages 5 - 13 years old participating in the Town of Granby summer day camp program. The program offers field trips, indoor and outdoor activities, programs and lessons, and special events. We would love for you to be a part of the fun! Part Time- and Full-Time opportunities are available. Counselors work up to 40 hours per week, Monday - Thursday.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate maturity of judgement, administrative ability, and the skills to appropriately supervise and direct school-age children in both a structured and unstructured setting.
  • Ability to concentrate, evaluate, and communicate under any circumstances. Day camp activities are active in nature, and they require physical stamina. Have the ability to perform the following tasks: climbing, hiking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, swimming, and the ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment screening including criminal history and motor vehicle report background checks.
  • Camp Counselors must be at least 18 years of age (16 years old to be an aide)
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s license
  • First Aid and CPR certified (Town can provide the certification class).
  • Must be able to swim and feel comfortable supervising children in the water.
  • M ust have experience supervising and interacting with school age children.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare facilities, equipment, and supplies for campers.
  • Assist in planning, organizing and instructing daily / weekly activities.
  • Responsible for driving 15 passenger busses with children to various locations (select counselors).
  • May teach an additional class or program.
  • Responsible for groups of children working with the assistance of additional staff.
  • Actively lead programs and activities which encourage participation by everyone.
  • Supervise and be responsible for a group of 1 – 12 children on field trips.
  • Assist camp staff in the maintenance of equipment, supplies and camp areas.
  • Assist with distributing camp activity calendars and information to parents.
  • Responsible for documenting and reporting all accidents, injuries, incidents, complaints, and problems.
  • Ensure health and safety precautions are met.
  • Comply with standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure Colorado Department of Child Care licensing regulations are being met.
  • Responsible for adhering to all guidelines as outlined in the Day Camp Parent Handbook.
  • Perform other duties involved with the Recreation Department and land owned and operated by the Town.
