About The Position

We are looking for an experienced manufacturing supervisor who is passionate about developing people, promoting a safe workplace, and achieving operational excellence. The successful individual will be responsible for leading our steel manufacturing department, coordinating daily production activities, coaching employees, & ensuring production, quality & safety targets are consistently achieved. As a Shift Supervisor, you’ll play a key leadership role in supporting our manufacturing operations. Working closely with Production Management, Quality, Maintenance, Shipping & other cross-functional teams, you’ll help create an engaged workforce while driving continuous improvement and delivering exceptional products to our customers. The successful candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, leads by example, and enjoys developing high-performing teams while continuously improving processes & results.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of Lean principles, raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
• Knowledge of hand/power tools
• Must possess a working knowledge of CWB welding standards & quality requirements
• Strong leadership, coaching & employee development skills
• Ability to build positive working relationships across departments
• Sound decision-making & problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Strong organizational & time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple competing demands
• Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, & monitor daily production activities
• Ability to promote & maintain a safe work environment & ensure compliance with company policies & legislative requirements
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, productivity & customer satisfaction
• Ability to analyze production metrics & use data to drive performance improvements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word)
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a positive & solution-focused approach
• Strong conflict resolution, performance management, & employee engagement skills
• Ability to read blueprints, parts lists, use & read measuring tape
• 5 years of progressive manufacturing experience, preferably within a steel fabrication, industrial manufacturing, distribution or production environment
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing setting
• Experience managing production schedules, labour resources & workflow to meet operational targets
• Demonstrated experience leading & motivating teams while fostering a positive, accountable work environment
• Experience investigating & resolving production, quality, & safety issues
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong Interpersonal communication skills

Nice To Haves

• CWB Welding Supervisor certification
• Postsecondary education in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Operations Management, or a related field
• Health & Safety training and/or certifications
• Mechanical aptitude & an understanding of manufacturing processes
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S, or similar operational excellence initiatives
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems & production reporting software

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, & supervise production employees to achieve departmental & organizational objectives
• Foster a positive, respectful, & accountable work environment that promotes teamwork, engagement, & continuous improvement
• Communicate daily production priorities, job expectations, company objectives, & operational updates to team members
• Coordinate daily production activities & assign work to ensure efficient use of labour, equipment & resources
• Monitor employee performance, provide coaching & constructive feedback, conduct performance evaluations, & address performance or attendance concerns in accordance with company policies; (e.g. work start, break and stop times of the production floor personnel)
• Support employee onboarding, training, cross-training, & ongoing development to build workforce capability & succession
• Address workplace conflicts & facilitate timely, effective resolution of employee concerns
• Participate in recruitment activities, including interviewing, selecting & onboarding new employees
• Lead by example, and when operationally required, perform production duties to support workflow & meet production requirements
• Plan, coordinate, & oversee daily production activities to ensure production schedules, productivity targets & customer commitments are achieved
• Ensure all daily production start-up activities, equipment checks, changeovers, quality inspections, tooling inspections, & safety inspections are completed
• Monitor workflow throughout the facility to ensure materials, equipment, & personnel are utilized efficiently
• Coordinate with material handling & support teams to ensure workstations are supplied with materials & production is not interrupted
• Identify production constraints & implement corrective actions to minimize downtime & improve throughput
• Ensure standardized work procedures & manufacturing processes are consistently followed
• Monitor production performance & implement actions to improve productivity, efficiency, & overall operational effectiveness
• Adapt quickly to changing production priorities while maintaining operational performance & customer service levels
• Promote & maintain a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with all health & safety legislation, company policies, safe working practices, & the proper use of personal protective equipment
• Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, & safety observations
• Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, & safety concerns, implementing corrective & preventive actions
• Maintain a safe, clean, & organized work environment through employee education, accountability, & adherence to housekeeping standards
• Ensure workstations, machinery, & common areas are maintained in an orderly condition that supports safe & efficient operations
• Ensure products are manufactured, processed, or prepared in accordance with Britespan’s quality standards, customer specifications, & established procedures
• Verify quality inspections are completed & respond promptly to quality concerns or non-conformances
• Monitor production processes to ensure consistent quality & identify opportunities for process improvement
• Collaborate with Quality, Production Management & other teams to resolve product or process issues
• Ensure production equipment tools, & workstations are maintained in safe working condition and available when required
• Coordinate maintenance requests & support preventative maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime
• Monitor inventory, materials, consumables, & production supplies to support uninterrupted operations
• Ensure efficient material flow throughout the manufacturing facility
• Lead & support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiative to enhance safety, quality, productivity, & cost performance
• Encourage employee involvement in identifying opportunities to eliminate waste, improve processes, & increase operational efficiency
• Support the implementation of new equipment, technologies, & process improvements
• Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to coordinate daily operations
• Attend and actively participate in production meetings, shift handovers, & operational planning sessions
• Maintain accurate production records, performance metrics, & operational reports
• Communicate operational issues, resource requirements, & improvement opportunities to management in a timely manner
• Demonstrate flexibility by supporting other departments & operational activities, as required, to ensure the efficient operations of the business
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Leader
