The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking Shift Supervisors to work in our new facility. This role will report directly to the Operations Leaders of the hiring Manufacturing Unit. This role is responsible for managing and executing shop floor operations in an assigned manufacturing area and shift and ensures execution of the production plan goals and objectives for that shift. The Shift Supervisor is accountable for plant and shop floor support and personnel on all shifts. They must possess leadership qualities sufficient to coach/mentor the shop floor employees in all aspects of the manufacturing process. The successful candidate must have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities include monitoring all aspects of EHS, Production, Reliability, and Quality. The Shift Supervisor must communicate and collaborate at a high level to help connect across all levels of the organization. They must also have a high level of engagement with the crews and serve as a resource for issues and opportunities on shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; BS or Technical Degree from an Accredited College preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a supervisor.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations.
  • Exhibit exceptional leadership characteristics.
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills.
  • Ability to prepare and make group presentations.
  • Work with operators and helpers to reach consensus decisions.
  • A good understanding of manufacturing systems and computer (MS Office, Windows, etc.) systems.
  • Personal traits should include the ability to use human relation skills to empower, train, understand, and develop others to attain the objectives.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess excellent reading, writing, listening, and verbal skills.
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work.
  • Ability to represent Novelis with external parties.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekdays, and holidays.
  • Ability to respond to trouble calls 24-hours a day.
  • Chosen applicants must be able to obtain a passport and have no travel restrictions.
  • Driver’s license must have a STAR ID.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate the Novelis Safety Principles to build an accountable zero-injury culture.

  • Drive safe behaviors and compliance with EHS policies in the manufacturing team, and hold team members accountable.
  • Monitor conditions and team practices to identify and quickly resolve unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviors and oversee housekeeping for the assigned area.
  • Lead accident investigations and Behavior-Based Safety observations.
  • Promote EHS policy, implement the EHS management system, and ensure continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations.
  • Assist development of and support EHS & Q plant policies and organization development.
  • Support and comply with all safety and health rules and regulations within the plant and assist with developing and directing safety awareness in respective work areas.
  • Coordinate planning and priorities with the Leadership team to meet manufacturing objectives (safety, quality, throughput, and cost).
  • Oversee execution of the manufacturing plan in the assigned process area and for the assigned shift.
  • Monitor production schedules for all process equipment and adjust schedules if necessary for maximum efficiency.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to execute preventive maintenance tasks and minimize downtime.
  • Engage with Technical, Process Leaders, and Supply Chain regarding quality-related issues.
  • Conduct consistent Quality-related engagements and audits as part of Quality Incident reporting and follow-up.
  • Monitor and ensure countermeasures for any vacancies that would result in disruptions to the manufacturing plan.
  • Provide guidance to the team on spotting and resolving machine center/line problems that result in downtime and/or product quality deficiencies.
  • Ensure all standard/standardized work instructions are followed.
  • Observe and react to any violation of plant rules and expectations and take appropriate action as needed; escalate employee relations issues as appropriate.
  • Engage associates consistently.
  • Serve as a champion for continuous improvement through daily management and problem-solving activities.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
