About The Position

The Shift Supervisor will be in ratio and work alongside Youth Care Specialist(s) during their scheduled hours and will be the responsible individual for the integrity of the program expectations during their shift. This role involves supervising Youth Care Specialists, providing direct care for youth through a therapeutic and trauma-informed framework, and collaborating with program coordinators and other supervisors to create staff schedules. The Shift Supervisor is expected to work collaboratively with the entire team, schedule regular meetings, and complete assigned logs, documents, and reports. They will provide emotional support, utilize rational problem-solving techniques for behavioral issues, and plan/participate in youth activities. The role also includes maintaining contact with internal and external agencies, documenting youth progress, teaching positive values, assisting with direct care staff supervision, participating in daily facility operations, and adhering to all policies and procedures. Reporting any suspected abuse or neglect and keeping supervisors informed of emergencies are critical responsibilities. The Shift Supervisor must also be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing all assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • At least two years in a Direct Care Staff role or its equivalent.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required, such as a GED from a program recognized by the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission or similar educational entity from another state, or documentation to verify high school equivalency from home schooling. Must provide a copy of degree/proof of degree.
  • Valid Texas driver's license, appropriate insurance, and reliable car.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work a wide array of hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pass reference verification procedure in order to determine one’s fitness to satisfactorily and safely care for youth.
  • Ability to attend all required trainings.
  • Must be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing all assigned tasks, and have the necessary skills to perform assigned tasks.
  • Candidate is asked to commit at least two years of service and provide, at minimum, a 30-day notice for termination of employment once hired.
  • Age minimum of 21 years of age per licensing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Youth Care Specialists while in ratio providing direct care for youth through a therapeutic and trauma informed framework.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator and other Shift Supervisors to create weekly staff schedule. Gaining approval from the LCCA/Program Director.
  • Work together with Youth Care Specialists for the benefit of those we serve and the continuity of the program, collaborate with the entire team and schedule regular meetings together to coordinate all the needs of the children and goings on of the campus.
  • Complete assigned logs, documents and reports for the benefit of the cabin they are working within.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate with co-workers, medical personnel, and other person’s necessary to care for the needs of children.
  • Provide emotional support utilizing trauma informed techniques, praise, positive feedback, affection, and empathy to build youth’s self-confidence and respect.
  • Use rational problem-solving techniques to teach the youth critical thinking skills, assist with behavioral problems, counsel through personal issues, and provide crisis intervention.
  • Plan, participate, and provide opportunities for individual and group activities that are both educational and entertaining.
  • Model positive parenting, family, and individual relationship skills to clients, parents, legal guardians, and caretakers.
  • Maintain contact and records with both internal and external agencies to obtain or provide information regarding youth’s behaviors, strategies, and progress.
  • Document and track youth progress in shift notes during shift exchange, report incidents/behaviors, and collaborate with case managers on documenting youth medical needs and appointments within the prescribed time frame.
  • Teach and model positive values and ethical behaviors, as well as support and encourage participation in regular spiritual activities. To encourage spiritual growth with daily devotions (individual and group), encouraging youth participation but never forcing them and always respecting each individual's faith.
  • Assist with supervising the activities assigned to direct care support staff to aid in youth development and success.
  • Participate in the daily operating schedule of the facility; assist with youth transportation needs.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, facility guidelines and DFPS GRO minimum standards.
  • Report any/all suspecting abuse or neglect to the Administrator on duty and immediately report the information to DFPS: txabusehotline.org.
  • Keep the LCCA/Program Director informed immediately, in the event of emergencies or unusual developments.
  • Complete all duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
