About The Position

FCC Environmental - Pinellas County Waste to Energy (WtE) facility is seeking a Shift Supervisor. This role oversees the daily operations of a facility that converts municipal solid waste into usable energy. The Shift Supervisor is critical for ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations during a designated shift. They will direct and supervise Operations Department and other plant personnel to ensure the facility is operated and maintained in a proper, clean, safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient manner in accordance with all Company policies, industry standards, and environmental standards, under the direction of the Operations Manager or Plant Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (accredited)
  • 3-5 years working in a power plant environment as a Control Room Operator or comparable position, or 5 years related experience which includes training in a power plant environment.
  • Skills, experience, and knowledge sufficient to acquire ASME QRO Provisional license within 12 months of employment.
  • Technical skills sufficient to complete required job functions such as schematics and P&ID reading.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as Computerized Maintenance Management System, Microsoft Office and other network portals.
  • Must be able to work overtime, odd and unscheduled hours as required and share on-call duties.
  • Ability to work a swing/rotating shift.

Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor and control all plant systems including boilers, turbines, emissions control systems, and residue handling systems.
  • Ensure optimal performance of all waste combustion and energy generation processes.
  • Ensure disciplined compliance with operational procedures and equipment/industry standards for the safe and proper operation of the facility during assigned shift rotation.
  • Supervise the functional activities of the assigned operations work group to ensure the facility is operated in a proper, safe, productive, clean, and compliant manner during assigned work shift.
  • Closely monitor the production and maintenance activities of the WtE facility and assist in planning and executing both scheduled and unscheduled equipment repairs and maintenance activities, outage work, as well as the timely completion of operating duties.
  • Support the development of operating procedures and instructions.
  • Assist in the evaluation and development of recommendations for plant improvements.
  • Maintain and enforce Company policies and procedures, environmental compliance, and safety and health requirements.
  • Establish and sustain acceptable work standards for operations tasks and activities, as well as behaviors and performance.
  • Train shift personnel in safety procedures and equipment use, plant operating procedures, and environmental standards and compliance.
  • Implement corporate and plant training programs and ensure continued progress in the programs by shift personnel.
  • Enforce and administer the lockout/tagout system, confined space entry program, facility Hot work program, as well as other safe work programs.
  • Perform other administrative duties such as conducting performance appraisals, completing disciplinary forms, accident and equipment damage reports, approving timesheets, and documenting attendance and tardiness.
  • Create work requests through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Maintain an accurate log of facility operations, activities, and events.
  • Make frequent rounds of the facility to ensure proper operation of steam generation and turbine generator equipment, materials storage and handling, facility security, cleanliness, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Serve as the Plant Manager's representative during periods when the site leadership team is off-site.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals as required or directed by facility operations.
  • Decisively and effectively direct personnel during all plant operations conditions, including equipment upset conditions and equipment failures.
  • Complete Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.
  • Maintain acceptable team morale.
  • Foster and promote a culture of teamwork and customer service between operational staff and all other plant staff.
  • Ensure that the facility and all personnel operate safely at all times and promote an environment whereby safety is a priority.
  • Read, understand, and apply information such as lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicate clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio, or face to face.
  • Anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring problems, and take appropriate action.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and assist in diagnosing problem areas.
  • Operate other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.
  • Thoroughly and promptly investigate any accidents or near misses in conjunction with the management team to ensure that any unsafe practices or conditions are addressed and eliminated immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
