About The Position

The Shift Sergeant, Security will supervise Public Safety Officers on assigned shift, assist in the conducting of investigations of crimes and accidents, protecting property, facilities, and citizens by law enforcement, and performing related work as required. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • 20 Hour Security Training Certificate and PERC Card required.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record is required.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of action
  • Knowledge of City, and State laws as it relates to Public Safety
  • Ability to understand and follow oral written instruction
  • Knowledge of geographic area of the campus
  • Knowledge of effective methods of investigation with the ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observations, and the examination of records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public, and other employees and exhibit outstanding customer service
  • Ability to enforce laws firmly, tactfully with respect for the rights of others
  • Ability to supervise the work of others
  • Ability to operate law enforcement equipment required in the performance of required duties
  • Working knowledge of a variety of Security Systems related to IT Systems

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Public Safety Officers on assigned shift, including preparing shift schedules.
  • Patrols hospital, ensuring service expectations are met and initiating corrective action as necessary.
  • Reviews Public Safety Officer incident reports for accuracy.
  • Monitors work performance of Public Safety Officers and conducts performance reviews.
  • Provides support for investigating accidents and suspected crimes, reports findings, and pursues appropriate course of action.
  • Assists in the training of Public Safety Officers
  • Represents the Security department as a member of Emergency Response Team.
  • May direct and control traffic; may issue parking citations in the parking garage.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
