About The Position

Shift Monitors are responsible for providing compassionate and professional service to families residing at the Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center and the community in a team-focused manner. This role ensures consistent stability and safety within the program through direct client service, including professional interactions, distribution of basic supplies, communication with donors and service providers, and offering support to the Program Director and Case Manager. This involves assistance with written and oral communications while maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2 years’ work experience working with homeless families or individuals.
  • Willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of or a willingness and aptitude to learn the concepts involved with serving low-income families.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Ability to work with confidential material.
  • Attention to detail, procedures, processes and policies.
  • Positive attitude and ability to be flexible.
  • Wear Salvation Army uniform shirt during shift.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general front desk duties including reading daily emails, handling mail, managing appointments, and handling incoming/outgoing phone calls.
  • Facilitate initial placement of guests, including conducting orientation and assigning rooms.
  • Notify relevant staff of any special mental health, dietary accommodations, or program violations.
  • Conduct nightly bed checks and daily room checks, documenting findings.
  • Prepare and distribute unusual incident reports and/or program violation reports.
  • Contact 911 as needed to address crisis situations.
  • Notify housekeeping and/or shift staff of impending new placements and guest departures.
  • Oversee guest belongings stored on-site for five days and clean vacated rooms.
  • Perform daily facility checks and lock up designated areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest information.
  • Perform data entry and report writing for daily and monthly demographics and program statistics.
  • Assist in contacting referral shelters to check availability and making referrals when vacancies exist.
  • Work with staff to relocate or place clients in appropriate alternative housing within ten to twelve days.
  • Serve as meal monitor, encouraging guest compliance and attendance.
  • Prompt guests to adhere to program guidelines for conduct and service utilization.
  • Perform safety checks of guest belongings and rooms to prevent concealment of prohibited items.
  • Direct guests to appropriate staff for social service issues.
  • Promote the supervision of minor children and report non-compliance.
  • Store and distribute guest cigarettes and monitor compliance with smoking policies.
  • Report maintenance requests and perform light housekeeping tasks.
  • Provide assistance in ensuring coordinated efforts with other areas.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Wear Salvation Army uniform shirt during shift.
