About The Position

Home Chef is seeking a Shift Manager for their 1st Shift operations. This role is responsible for creating and executing shift-level production plans, ensuring supervisors meet production output, efficiency, safety, and food safety standards. The Shift Manager acts as a decision-maker in the absence of a department head and escalates critical issues. The position requires a strong understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and a commitment to fostering a safe and productive work environment. This role is crucial in maintaining Home Chef's commitment to delivering high-quality meal solutions.

Requirements

  • Completion of a four-year degree program in a related field such as Business Administration OR equivalent level of experience in operations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful managerial leadership experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Track record of driving KPIs and meeting or exceeding goals.
  • Experience in developing team members through both leading and managing.
  • Strong track record of people leadership experience and positive culture management/improvement.
  • Proficient with Excel, ERP systems, and mobile technology (tablets, cell phone, etc.).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have floor presence and be able to stand/walk for up to 12 hours in a cold environment up to 40 degrees F.
  • Must be available to respond to work related inquiries during off hours (including nights and weekends).
  • Flexibility to change processes quickly and adhere to day end goal.
  • Communicates and leads safety above all else and create culture around it.
  • Full knowledge of SQF, HACCP and GMP programs.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement effective shift-level production plans based on weekly targets, addressing any outstanding activities from the previous shift.
  • Communicate production plans and set clear goals for supervisors.
  • Adjust production plans in response to quality issues, shortages, or staffing changes.
  • Minimize downtime by proactively identifying and resolving production issues.
  • Track production progress against the plan and ensure targets are met.
  • Assign tasks to Gatekeepers for data accuracy and organization of inventory.
  • Attend daily cross-departmental huddles to relay important messages.
  • Share production plans with FSQA and Warehouse departments to facilitate support.
  • Problem-solve cross-functional issues with FSQA and Warehouse departments.
  • Ensure on-time, in-full shipments and meet meals/hour targets.
  • Oversee timely and appropriate completion of performance reviews for supervisors.
  • Hold team members to high expectations and address underperformance.
  • Solicit feedback from other leaders regarding team performance.
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews for production supervisors and provide prompt feedback.
  • Model strong people leadership skills and develop these skills in supervisors.
  • Recognize team members for strong performance and positive behaviors.
  • Ensure team structure is maintained and supervisors conduct routine check-ins.
  • Foster a coaching culture by providing feedback to supervisors and working through them to provide feedback to leads and associates.
  • Partner with HR and temp agencies to manage staffing and attendance.
  • Manage time off requests for supervisors and act as an escalation point for associate requests.
  • Provide disciplinary actions for hourly employees in conjunction with supervisors and HR.
  • Communicate performance issues with temporary staff to agency representatives and HR.
  • Make shift decisions based on SOPs and management guidance, including responding to adverse events or material shortages.
  • Ensure compliance with Home Chef GMPs and operational guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, addressing safety hazards.
  • Coach supervisors on conducting safety investigations and escalating structural issues.
  • Support the company's food safety system (SQF) and quality programs.
  • Uphold Home Chef’s Cardinal Rules of Safety and Food Safety.
  • Prioritize safety in all business decisions and hold direct reports accountable for safe execution.
  • Lead safety meetings for the entire shift.
  • Ensure completion of Behavioral Safety Observations, Near Misses, and Food Safety Call It Outs.
  • Participate in Incident Review Board meetings and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Support Home Chef’s Safety Goals and be accountable for injury rates.
  • Complete all required training and enforce team completion of compliance and leadership training.
  • Support and participate in emergency activities.
  • Maintain strong Safety Records, Error Rates, and OTFR for the shift.
  • Partner with Continuous Improvement to identify and implement process changes for efficiency.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of all production SOPs and cross-departmental procedures.
  • Set expectations for strict adherence to all SOPs.
  • Create a culture of SOP feedback and work to revise SOPs.
  • Drive process changes during SOP modifications rollouts.
  • Participate in the SOPs audit program.
