About The Position

As a Shift Manager, you are always striving to enhance the lives of pets and their people when customers are shopping with us. We are pawsitively passionate about all things we do, which include providing friendly customer service, understanding the specific needs of various pets (from parrots to hamsters to large dogs), and assisting customers in making positive transitions for their newly adopted pets. When a customer is shopping with us, their pet is OUR PET. The ideal employee is proactive in greeting customers, assists the management team with day-to-day store operations, maintains a clean and organized sales floor, and helps customers feel at ease. As a Shift Manager, you will drive daily sales goals and complete tasks as the Manager on Duty in the absence of the Store and Assistant Manager.

Requirements

Minimum 1 year in a retail management role
Enjoy working with and around animals.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule which includes morning, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Heavy lifting up to 55lbs required several times throughout a shift.
Active listening required when communicating / speaking with customers and employees.
Active observation required when merchandising the store.

Responsibilities

Prioritize, assign, and delegate daily goals, tasks, and assignments to the associate team and ensure proper completion when manager on duty.
Monitor teams on the expected customer service and selling models, communicates with Store Manager / Assistant Manager on observations.
Celebrate and recognize the team’s efforts and accomplishments.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and positive attitude in the workplace, including conducting oneself appropriately when communicating verbally, in writing, or by email.
Partner with the Store Manager to plan and execute community events and develop mutually beneficial business relationships with various rescue agencies.
Lead and demonstrate engagement.
Be a role model demonstrating excellent customer service, brand, and loyalty awareness.
Protect employees and customers by maintaining a safe and clean store environment.
Maintain cleanliness and well-being of all livestock including animal care and feeding.
Accountable for the protection of all company assets both tangible and intangible.
Supports, understands and accountable for maintaining store and brand standards, operational excellence and meeting all safety requirements.
Communicate relevant store communications and distribute information to store employees accordingly, and ensure any required actions are completed in a timely manner.
Support inventory management - Place orders within budget and drive sales.
Support in maintaining the fish system, including inventory, ordering, and adhering to budgets.
Partners with the Store Manager to ensure physical inventories are accurate, counts are taken, and shrink goals are met.
Accountable for communicating concerns with gaps in performance to Store Manager or Assistant Store manager so this can be addressed appropriately and in a timely manner.
Support the execution of new hire training checklists, all training plans, and merchandising guidelines.
Support the execution of community events and partnering with various rescue agencies.
Complete tasks and other duties as assigned by store management.
Regularly monitor business throughout the day / shift and react to business needs.
