About The Position

The Shift Lead position at Pet Supermarket is for individuals looking to join a large retail operation focused on providing pet parents with a wide selection of pet care items and excellent customer service. Shift Leads are expected to be outgoing, upbeat, sales-driven, and possess strong organizational skills, thriving in a high-energy environment. This role involves supporting the associate and management team, functioning as a lead member of the Sales Associate team, encouraging collaboration, and setting performance standards. In this multi-dimensional role, the Shift Lead provides customer sales assistance and acts as "Manager on Duty" when necessary, making a difference in the lives of pets and their parents.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year retail or customer service experience.
  • Enjoy working with and around animals.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule which will include morning, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Outgoing, upbeat, people-person, sales driven, and great organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers and leads the team in driving sales, service, and customer experience initiatives in store to achieve sales, KPIs and store performance goals.
  • Prioritize, assign, and delegate daily goals, tasks, and assignments to associate team and ensure proper completion when manager on duty.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and positive attitude in the workplace, including conducting oneself in an appropriate manner when communicating verbally, in writing, or by email.
  • Partner with the Store Manager to plan and execute community events and develop mutually beneficial business relationships with various rescue agencies.
  • Protect employees and customers by maintaining a safe and clean store environment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and well-being of all livestock including animal care and feeding.
  • Lead and demonstrate engagement with customers using selling and service model.
  • Support, understand, and be accountable for maintaining store standards and meeting all safety requirements / standards, including the protection of all company assets both tangible and intangible.
  • Clean pet enclosures and ensure all animals have appropriate food and water.
  • Support in maintaining the fish system.
  • Assist with the restocking of merchandise on shelves and fixtures and moving products from the stockroom to the salesfloor.
  • Partner with the Store Manager to ensure physical inventories are accurate, counts are taken, and shrink goals are met.
  • Be proficient in store opening and closing procedures.
  • Be accountable for communicating concerns with gaps in performance to Store Manager or Assistant Store manager so this can be addressed appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Support the execution of new hire training and merchandising guidelines.
  • Support the execution of community events and partnering with various rescue agencies.
  • Complete tasks and other duties as assigned by store management.
  • Understand the business.
  • Regularly monitor business throughout the day / shift.
  • React to business needs.
