About The Position

The Production Shift Lead - 2nd shift is responsible for coordinating, supporting, and directing day‑to‑day activities for the Forming and Laser area on the assigned shift. This role ensures production targets are met safely, efficiently, and with consistent quality in a high‑mix/low‑volume environment. The Shift Lead provides technical support, assigns work, monitors workflow, assists with problem‑solving, and acts as the primary point of contact for shift‑level issues. The Lead ensures adherence to drawings, cosmetic standards, production schedules, safety expectations, and company policies.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and travelers.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks across departments and shifts.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in computer skills using MS Office 365 and ERP system for data entry and production reporting.
  • Working knowledge of all production equipment.
  • Knowledge of material handling equipment, including hoists and carts.
  • Basic interpretation of blueprints, GD&T, and travelers.
  • ERP data entry for production reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • 3–5 years of experience in sheet metal manufacturing, ideally with exposure to laser, punch, or brake press operations.
  • High school diploma (technical diploma preferred).
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and machine operations.
  • Mechanical aptitude or background considered an asset.
  • Supervisory or leadership training/certification considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assign daily work to production team members.
  • Ensure smooth workflow between production processes.
  • Monitor job progress and adjust priorities based on production needs.
  • Review travelers, schedules, and drawings to ensure all shift personnel understand requirements.
  • Communicate regularly & effectively with the Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Coordinate between the cross-functional team to maintain flow.
  • Provide hands‑on assistance with setups or troubleshooting on production machines.
  • Support operators with parameter adjustments, setup clarification, or work instruction questions.
  • Ensure correct tooling, materials, and programs are used for each job.
  • Perform in‑process checks on components.
  • Review first article pieces for new jobs or setups.
  • Support operators in identifying and correcting quality issues.
  • Escalate recurring defects, material problems, or process deviations with applicable personnel.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new operators in the production area.
  • Mentor team members to improve their setup skills, quality checks, and machine operation proficiency.
  • Reinforce standard work, consistent setup practices, and safe operating procedures.
  • Model professional conduct and promote teamwork across all departments and shifts.
  • Assume some of the Manufacturing Supervisor tasks when the Manufacturing Supervisor is off-site or unavailable.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S principles).
  • Ensure tools, fixtures, and materials are properly stored and maintained.
  • Monitor machine‑specific hazards such as pinch points, laser safety zones, and sharp edges.
  • Oversee safe handling of mirror finish stainless steel and ensure non‑marring practices are followed.
  • Maintain organized work areas through 5S principles.
  • Support lockout/tagout when required.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as instructed by the Supervisor.
