Steelscape, a leading west-coast manufacturer of coated and metal for construction, is seeking a Shift Electrician for its facility in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The Shift Electrician is responsible for maintaining equipment used in the production of Steelscape’s steel products. This role requires expertise in pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, with a specialization in AC/DC electrical, PLC, and instrumentation. The position involves preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair with minimal guidance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of maintenance experience on a continuous metal processing line, such as a galvanizing or paint coating line.
  • Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Must possess basic knowledge in processing computer-controlled equipment and plant maintenance knowledge in electricity, electronics, instrumentation, and controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Electrician or equivalent training and/or degree from a technical or vocational institution.
  • Prior experience working specifically as an Electrician in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Achieving ‘Level 2’ Mechanical qualifications will greatly contribute to success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Locates source of trouble in any type of electrical equipment or apparatus by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for mechanical failure.
  • Dismantles, inspects, repairs, replaces or adjusts faulty parts and wiring on electrical equipment including but not limited to switches, circuit breakers, transformers, hydraulic and magnetic brakes, panel boards, resistance banks, motors, and starters.
  • Rewires, insulates, paints and reassembles equipment, complete adjustments required and bench testing equipment prior to installation or placing in storeroom.
  • Obtains working knowledge necessary for troubleshooting and servicing all PLC and control equipment associated with the facility.
  • Performs a regular routine of test and calibrations, set ups and adjustments on any type of combustion and instrumentation equipment.
  • Analyzes all types of instrumentation drawings, combustion safety drawings, systems piping and wiring diagrams, charts and graphs.
  • Safely operate construction equipment such as forklifts, carts, overhead cranes, etc.
  • Drive to achieve ‘Level 1’ Electrical Qualifications within 90 days of hire, ‘Level 2’ within 1 year of hire, ‘Level 3’ within 2 years of hire, and ‘Level 4’ within 4 years of hire.
  • Mechanical qualifications are not required but achieving ‘Level 2’ will greatly contribute to success in this role.
  • Adhere to Steelscape Safety standards, including following all LO/TO requirements.
  • Information gathering and contribution toward elimination of major breakdowns.
  • Log work performed, hours worked, and parts used for all maintenance work into SAP.
  • Make mechanical repairs to equipment being serviced, including the replacement, repair and installation of sleeve and anti-friction bearings, gears, shafts, pins, etc.
  • Completion of Planned and Preventative Maintenance work assigned by the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler to strive for 95% Compliance.
  • Assist in maintaining operational readiness and cleanliness of all shop equipment.
  • Assist in the general housekeeping and organization of the parts storeroom.
