About The Position

This is a Department Promotional Examination open to eligible employees of the Kern County Sheriff's Office. The examination process includes an oral exam (weight 100%) to assess training, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the position. If there are insufficient candidates, the Human Resources Division may appraise application materials instead. Applicants must achieve at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination. Examination components will be administered on the scheduled date(s)/time(s)/location without exception. A background check, and potentially post-offer medical and drug screening tests, may be conducted. This examination will establish an eligible list for immediate and future appointments, valid for twelve months unless otherwise specified.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Kern County Senior Deputy
  • Possession of an Intermediate Certificate awarded by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission for the State of California
  • Valid government-issued photograph identification for admittance to the examination
  • High moral character, ethical conduct, trustworthiness, and professionalism
