About The Position

Under general supervision, performs law enforcement duties in accordance with the mission, goals, and objectives of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and statutes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess a valid Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) license
  • Must possess a valid Missouri driver license
  • Must be a Missouri resident residing within 20 miles or less from the Franklin County borders
  • must successfully complete Road Patrol certification through field training
  • additional training and/or other specialized certifications may be required.
  • Knowledge of: County and Department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of: Forensic interviewing and interrogation methods.
  • Knowledge of: Evidence collection and handling protocols and regulations.
  • Knowledge of: Investigative methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of: Federal, State, and local laws, statutes, and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of: Firearm safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of: Radio communication procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of: Basic knowledge for operating computers and electronics.
  • Skills in: Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
  • Skills in: Hand-to-hand combat and defensive techniques and tactics.
  • Skills in: Firearm proficiency.
  • Skills in: Emergency vehicle operation.
  • Skills in: Communication clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Skills in: Collecting and analyzing evidence, commensurate with job duties.
  • Skills in: Conducting interviews and interrogations.
  • Skills in: Determining and applying the proper use of force.
  • Skills in: Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces laws governed by the Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri and upholds the U.S. Constitution.
  • Provides emergency assistance and responds to dispatched calls for service.
  • Resolves conflicts between parties; de-escalates potentially violent situations; applies reasonable physical force when intervening in conflicts and as needed when making arrests.
  • Protects crime scenes; gathers information, conducts interviews and interrogations; completes investigations and follow-ups
  • Serves arrest warrants and other civil documents; enforces protection orders.
  • Conducts search and seizures; protects and collects evidence; makes arrests and transports prisoners.
  • Writes and reviews reports; prepares warrant applications; prepares documents for court appearances.
  • Provides credible testimony under oath in court.
  • Enforces traffic related laws to include DWI violations; issues citations as appropriate; makes arrests when necessary; directs traffic and assists disabled motorists as needed.
  • Operates an emergency vehicle in all weather conditions.
  • Patrols assigned region to serve as a crime deterrent.
  • Uses radio for transmitting and receiving communications.
  • Participates in maintaining office vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains mandated training requirements of the state and sheriff’s office.
  • Maintains physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned duties.
  • Maintains positive community and interpersonal relations; assists with public relations and educational events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
