Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or a related field
  • At least one year of recent, relevant experience within the last five years, including work in substance abuse and mental illness
  • Training in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and mediation skills
  • Cultural sensitivity training
  • Current Level I First Aid certificate
  • Superior time management
  • Proven crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and mediation skills
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities
  • Proficiency in developing program materials
  • Commitment to problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Union membership required
  • Must undergo a Police Information Check (PIC)
  • Must undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice

Nice To Haves

  • Crisis line experience
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Access to personal vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Securing the premises
  • Conducting minor repairs
  • Responding to unsafe actions and conflicts among residents
  • Handling 24-hour referrals
  • Extending stays as needed
  • Managing intake and orientation
  • Overseeing the care and safety of both the residents and the shelter
  • Setting clear boundaries
  • Fostering a positive atmosphere
  • Supervising basic life skills
  • Assisting with hygiene
  • Addressing resident barriers with collaborative plans
  • Providing resources and support
  • Modeling appropriate behavior
  • Encouraging resident participation
