The Shelter Veterinarian is responsible for examining all animals brought to the shelter to determine acceptance of sterilization and performing the surgical procedures for sterilization. This role will also be responsible for establishing and implementing measures to prevent the introduction of potential infectious diseases and for setting up control measures should a contagious problem occur within the shelter. The veterinarian will maintain a surgical suite for the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) and interact with volunteers. This is a full-time position that requires independent judgment to recommend the best option for an animal and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, evaluating new approaches to problem-solving, and assessing changing facts or conditions. It requires regular contact with internal and external customers involving considerable tact, discretion, and persuasion in obtaining the cooperation of others. The role calls for a well-developed sense of timing, strategy, and may involve detailed explanation and interpretation of policies, rules, and regulations. The veterinarian will also be responsible for boosting morale, encouraging engagement, and professional development with team members, leveraging evidence-based medicine, and continuing the pursuit of education to deliver quality patient care. The veterinarian will adopt and positively impact new veterinary standards and guidelines.
