The Shelter Support position is responsible for assisting the day-to-day operations of the emergency shelter while providing support to families. This position reports to the Wyoming Park Family Shelter Program Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent degree preferred or equivalent work experience considered
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic first aid training and/or CPR certification preferred
  • Supportive of our organizational mission and of faith-based initiatives and programming
  • Ability to work all shifts, as needed to support the operations of shelter
  • Volunteer experience with non-profits and families preferred
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Must have the ability to identify risk factors
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as effectively within a team.
  • Must be able to work well with colleagues, board members and volunteers.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel/Gmail/google drive.

Responsibilities

  • Provide light duty cleaning for all shifts.
  • Assess inventory of basic need items on site and restock items.
  • Gather and disperse food and clothing donations to families.
  • Assist in meal planning, preparation and meal distribution to families.
  • Assist and coordinate in-kind donations with families and partner agencies.
  • Provide support to families via phone.
  • Provide transportation for families using agency vans, if needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Assist in reporting emergency situations to the Program Manager.
  • Provides support with Family Promise special events, as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
