This role is responsible for assisting with the orientation process and welcoming participants into the residential setting. The specialist will provide guidelines, answer questions, ensure adherence to rules, encourage positive behaviors, respond to issues and problems, and maintain a professional, respectful, and safe environment. The position involves cross-training in all Residential Team Member duties, providing coverage and assistance to other team members, and supporting daily shelter operations including laundry, food, maintenance, cleaning, and perimeter checks. Accurate completion of required paperwork, maintaining daily logs, and ensuring adherence to shelter guidelines are key aspects of this role. The specialist will also communicate participant concerns to management, participate in debriefings, and complete data entry. Additional duties include issuing receipts for donations, allocating participant beds, recruiting and supervising participant volunteers, answering the telephone, safeguarding shelter areas, preparing food, ensuring kitchen cleanliness, supervising meal deliveries and volunteers, managing shelter supply inventories, and following health and sanitation procedures. The role also involves medication distribution, contraband screening, conducting searches, and attending various meetings and training sessions. A strong understanding of issues facing the homeless population, ability to work with diverse groups, empathy, persuasiveness, and detail orientation are essential. The position requires comfort working with individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues and knowledge of emergency procedures.
