About The Position

YWCA Dayton, a 24 hours organization dedicated to the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women, seeks an energetic, dedicated person to be an integral part of our team. As an Exempt -Salaried position, the Shelter Navigator II assists with crisis services by ensuring that survivors of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking and their children have access to crisis hotline and/or shelter on 24-hour per day basis. This position is the face of the organization and is passionate about “Making a Difference” in the lives of all within our community. This enhanced role builds upon the Shelter Navigator position by incorporating individualized case planning, progress monitoring, and service coordination. This position is a full-time position and is mission oriented as an Exempt – Salaried employee expected to work 40 hours weekly with some evenings and weekend activities. The Shelter Navigator II position is responsible for customer service and quality supportive services are made available to victims of domestic violence and their children on a 24-hour per day basis. The client support team will deliver services utilizing trauma informed care and other best practices and protocol.

Requirements

  • Effective Communication: Communicate effectively and appropriately verbally and in writing demonstrating teamwork and collaboration.
  • Mission Understanding: Demonstrated understanding and commitment to YWCA USA and YWCA Dayton's mission, vision, history, and programs, demonstrated core values. Must be sensitive to the needs of families in crisis demonstrating empathy and compassion with high confidentiality.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability in understanding domestic violence, homelessness and interventions in residential settings, delivering exceptional customer service. Must be knowledgeable about all available programs and resources; demonstrate good computer skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills to perform crisis intervention.
  • Minimum of 2 years customer service, call center, domestic violence shelter, social work, mental health, human services experience; HS Diploma required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services or Mental Health preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention and supportive services to survivors accessing YWCA Dayton’s 24-hour shelter and hotline.
  • Conduct case management for assigned clients, including intake, assessment, goal planning, service linkage, and weekly follow-ups.
  • Develop individualized service plans using trauma-informed, strengths-based practices.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, progress updates, and required documentation.
  • Facilitate referrals to housing, legal, medical, financial, mental health, and community resources.
  • Coordinate with internal staff and external partners to support client stabilization and long-term safety.
  • Support 24-hour shelter operations, including hotline coverage, guest orientation, and crisis response.
  • Complete shelter intakes, eligibility screenings, documentation, and database entries.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, welcoming environment for clients and children.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
