About The Position

The Shelter Monitor is responsible for overseeing shelter operations during the overnight shift, ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of residents. This role supports a positive living environment by upholding shelter policies, providing guidance and supervision, and assisting residents with access to community resources.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in human services or working with diverse populations.
  • Completion of required training within designated timeframes.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to prepare meals for groups of 30–40 people.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Provide direction to residents, volunteers, and interns during assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the security and safety of residents, facilities, and grounds.
  • Supervise residents to ensure order, harmony, and compliance with shelter rules.
  • Share information on available community resources with residents.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and residents.
  • Assign and oversee resident cleaning chores.
  • Reinforce shelter policies fairly, without discrimination or favoritism.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and contact supervisors as needed.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with residents.
  • Prepare meals as needed.
  • Support The Salvation Army’s mission, policies, and confidentiality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
