About The Position

The Shelter Ministry Support Staff role involves guest intake and supervision, ensuring the security and safety of guests, visitors, staff, and building operations. This position may also involve coordinating volunteers during day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours. New Life Center's work is grounded in its Christian mission and values, and this role contributes to the ministry and operations of the organization. Requirements

  • Must be engaged in a local church and exhibit a personal, evident, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Compassionate heart for those in need.
  • Willingness to serve others.
  • Desire to see the lost transformed through the love of Christ.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • If in recovery, a minimum of one year of sustained recovery with active participation in a 12-step program is required; two or more years is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must exhibit leadership, good judgment, sensitivity, and compassion.
  • Must be a person who works well with people, is concerned about their needs, and exhibits ability to motivate and to provide appropriate corrective measures when necessary.
  • Must be able to problem solve alone as well as with others.
  • Must have the ability to work as a team.
  • Possess a basic working knowledge of computers and desktop computing software (such as Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Administer all aspects of supervising guests such as conducting intake, assigning beds, monitoring behavior, and supervising work assignments.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe environment.
  • Supervise eating areas.
  • Administer alcohol breath tests, carrying out appropriate action, and documenting outcomes.
  • Greet volunteers and supervise their time as needed.
  • Monitor the front entrance for incoming donations, promptly greet donors, and ensure they receive timely, courteous assistance.
  • Remain attentive to donor activity to minimize wait times and provide a positive, respectful donation experience.
  • Ensure proper implementation and use of New Life Center policies and operational procedures.
  • Responsible for building and grounds security; conduct security rounds throughout designated shifts to ensure interior and exterior areas are safe and secure.
  • Contact emergency services or law enforcement when necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the shelter through supervision of guests and personal participation.
  • Maintain guest records and departmental records.
  • Oversee all aspects of financial accountability during designated shifts, including collecting rehab service fees, issuing receipts, and maintaining proper documentation.
  • Participate in staff meetings as requested by Administration.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and training events as required by Administration.
  • Assist with other departmental mission work as required and maintain open and effective communication with peers and all mission staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
