Who We're Looking For We're seeking a passionate and resourceful Shelter Housing Specialist to join our team and serve as a critical bridge between families experiencing homelessness and the stable housing they deserve. This isn't just a desk job — it's a chance to walk alongside families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives and help guide them toward a fresh start. You'll be a connector, an advocate, a coach, and a problem-solver — all rolled into one.
Requirements
- Associate degree in a related field
- Proficiency with Office 365 and reporting/data software
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet vehicle insurance requirements
- A genuine commitment to equity, dignity, and human potential
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field is a plus!
- 1-2 years of experience working with families facing housing instability or homelessness
Responsibilities
- Coach & Empower — Work one-on-one with families in our Emergency Shelter program to build personalized, goal-driven housing plans they actually believe in
- Open Doors — Build and maintain relationships with landlords and property owners across the community, expanding housing options for the families we serve
- Inspect & Protect — Conduct HQS inspections to ensure every unit meets HUD standards and that families are moving into safe, quality homes
- Navigate the Process — Guide clients through rental applications, leases, tenant rights, and everything in between so no paperwork stands between a family and their new home
- Advocate Loudly — Speak up for families facing unsafe or neglected housing conditions and hold property owners accountable
- Document with Purpose — Maintain accurate case notes, HMIS data, and client files that tell the full story of each family's journey
- Collaborate Constantly — Partner with case managers, shelter staff, and outside agencies to ensure no family falls through the cracks
