About The Position

The Front Desk Advocate position plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operational function of SafeNest residential shelter. This position combines advocacy, administrative, and operational responsibilities to create a safe and supportive environment for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The primary objective is to provide assistance, information, and resources to survivors in a healing environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a domestic violence shelter or related social service field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in a hectic environment.
  • Sensitivity to issues of domestic violence, sexual violence, and trauma.
  • Knowledge of local resources and services for survivors.
  • Proficient computer skills for administrative tasks.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome survivors and provide compassionate, non-judgmental support in a tranquil trauma-informed environment.
  • Provide immediate needs, such as food, clothing, toiletries, and bedding for residents and their families.
  • Support residential Hope Advocacy team, Transitional Housing Advocacy, and Child Watch Advocacy.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the shelter, including gate entry access, inventory needs, and front house cleanliness and safety.
  • Maintain records of shelter occupancy, incidents, and services provided.
  • Coordinate with shelter staff and volunteers to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to meet the shelter's operational needs.
  • Answer phones, screen, direct calls, and manage inquiries.
  • Manage the shelter's appointment and scheduling system.
  • Maintain a welcoming, clean, and organized front desk area.
  • Handle mail, packages, and deliveries for the shelter.
  • Collaborate with Hope Advocacy, Transitional Housing Advocacy, and Child Watch Advocacy staff with urgent needs and emergencies when necessary.
  • Ensure the availability of crisis resources and follow established protocols and processes.
  • Stay informed about domestic and sexual violence issues, survivor needs, trauma-informed language and support as well as maintaining a healing space for residents.
  • Provide training to new shelter staff and volunteers on operational procedures.
  • Educate survivors on their rights, available resources, and options for empowerment.
  • Other duties as requested by management.
