About The Position

MercyFirst is seeking a Part-Time Shelter Clinician for its START Refugee Services program in Syosset, NY. This role provides essential clinical services to unaccompanied minors (UAC) who have come to the U.S. without their parents or guardians. Many of these children have experienced trauma, violence, abandonment, and other adverse situations in their home countries. The program prioritizes the safety, health, and education of these children. The clinician will conduct mental health assessments, provide individual and group therapy, screen for human trafficking, trauma, and substance abuse, and offer crisis intervention. This position requires a Master's degree in Social Work, NYS licensure as an LMSW, bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, and two years of relevant experience. The role involves working within a multidisciplinary team and ensuring compliance with Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) regulations.

Requirements

Master of Social Work Degree
NYS Licensure as a Social Worker (LMSW)
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Two years' experience
Good Communication, both verbal and written

Proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route (Varicella, MMK, DTaP or DTap, and Influenza) as required by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
Successfully completing all onboarding and background check requirements.
Completing ORR’s suitability process.

Responsibilities

Provide mental health assessments, individual, and group counseling sessions to UAC.
Conduct weekly individual counseling sessions with UAC to review progress, establish objectives, and address developmental and crisis-related needs.
Ensure clinical documentation in the UAC portal is completed by time-sensitive deadlines and clinical notes are up-to-date for ORR compliance.
Conduct screenings for human trafficking, trauma, and substance abuse.
Provide on-site Crisis intervention/Assessment/Rapid Intervention for any child identified as in need.
Coordinate and communicate mental health treatment needs of UACs within a multi-disciplinary team.
Implement SPARCS group treatment evidence-based modality and comply with timely reporting standards.
Prepare case notes for each session/contact and treatment summaries.
Provide Clinical Supervision of Visitation when a special request has been issued.
Work in partnership with the Lead Clinician to maintain compliance standards and develop strategies for program growth.
Participate in ongoing training initiatives and ensure all required training is completed on time.
Ensure compliance with ORR’s suitability process.
Provide 24-hour on-call support to agency personnel and ORR contacts.
